Brundall Sports Hub
Project details
This project delivered a new sports hub in Brundall, adjacent to Yarmouth Road and the recent Church Mead development. The new facility includes:
- A full-size 3G Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) with floodlighting, fencing, and dedicated spectator areas.
- Hard-standing pathways and a car park for up to 60 vehicles.
- A pavilion with changing rooms, a kitchen, and community space.
Brundall's Neighbourhood Plan, adopted in 2016, identified that the village had limited recreational facilities. The plan supported the provision of new and expanded amenities, including a formal outdoor sports pitch. Broadland District Council and Brundall Parish Council worked collaboratively to secure a piece of land through a Section 106 development agreement, designated for recreational use.
With funding from the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB), the Football Foundation, and the parish council, the Brundall Sports Hub was created. Located in an area experiencing significant growth - including nearby Blofield and the North East Growth Triangle - the hub supports local communities in becoming more physically active, contributing to improved health, wellbeing, and social cohesion.
This project was particularly important to the GNGB as it aligns closely with the objectives of the Greater Norwich Physical Activity and Sport Strategy 2022: supporting and encouraging people to live active and healthy lifestyles, reducing inequalities in our communities and supporting a strong and sustainable sport and physical activity sector.
The site opened in late 2024 and is managed by the Community Sports Foundation (CSF). In its first year, the hub received over 1,600 bookings, equating to 2,030 hours of usage. It has quickly become a valued community asset, with more than 75 teams regularly booking the pitch. CSF has high aspirations for the site, aiming to expand access for schools, disability programmes, and female participants.
