Aylsham Gym & Fitness Hub

This project delivered phase 3 of development at Aylsham Sports Hub, located at the Aylsham High School site, introducing a 485m² health and fitness facility. Prior to this phase, the site featured a 3G pitch, swimming pool, and sports hall. The new facility includes a 40-station gym, spin studio, and changing areas, enhancing the hub's provision.

Aylsham Gym and Fitness Hub is strategically located, with over 800 new homes planned locally by 2038. This new facility provides vital community infrastructure, helping residents of Aylsham and nearby communities stay active. This project was a priority for the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) as it aligns with Broadland's Built Facilities Strategy, which recommends improving health and fitness provision near market towns such as Acle, Aylsham, and Reepham. It also supports Aylsham's Neighbourhood Plan, which seeks to ensure new developments provide community facilities.

The project was funded through a combination of school capital funding, Section 106 contributions, and investment from the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) and Norfolk County Council. The new facility is operated as part of the wider sports hub, which is non-profit making: all surplus income is reinvested into the facilities and into the schools supported by TACT (Families) for the benefit of the children, their families and the community.

Since opening in August 2025, the facility has already made a significant impact with over 10,000 gym visits in the first two months and over 700 gym memberships, alongside the existing 75 swim only memberships.

The hub serves as more than a fitness space - it is a vital community asset. The team continues to work towards their ultimate vision of creating a comprehensive health and wellbeing centre, offering a range of services for the local community.
