The Physical Activity and Sport Strategy Year 3 Update provides an update on the actions identified within the agreed action plan for the third year of delivery.

Publication Type: Physical Activity and Sport Strategy | Publication Date: 04 March 2026

The Greater Norwich Sports and Physical Activity Working Group (SPAWG) have worked together to collate an update on the Physical Activity and Sport Strategy (PASS) in 2025 with the aim of extending the validity of the PASS and showcasing some of the work that has been undertaken to help enhance opportunities to be physically active in Greater Norwich.

In 2025 the SPAWG conducted a public consultation to understand the current behaviours and feelings towards physical activity. This consultation identified several key trends in physical activity across Greater Norwich:

  • 59% of our residents have changed the way in which they get active over the last 3 years, residents are walking more, more active in day-to-day life and exercising at home more.
  • Feedback surrounding facilities is more positive than 2021; more residents believe their facility meets their needs, is well equipped and that their facility is accessible for people requiring additional support.
  • 9% more inactive residents believe that their health and wellbeing is important or very important, than in 2021. However, 68% inactive residents deemed themselves less active than they were 3 years ago.
  • Mental health was identified as one of the top health conditions that make daily activities difficult, while also being one of the top motivators for active residents to participate in physical activity.
  • It remains that inactive people are more likely to consider using leisure facilities to get active while active residents utilise informal spaces.
