Kett's Heights

Project details
The Kett's Heights project successfully delivered several key improvements to this historic site in Norwich. It aimed to make Kett's Heights more accessible, safer, and ecologically diverse. The Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) invested £312,000 of funding into this project from the Infrastructure Investment Fund, which was topped up by a grant from Norwich City Council. This funding allowed the delivery of several key improvements to the site, including:
- Improved access with a resurfaced path and new steps from Kett's Hill, provision of a new inclusive ramped access from Ladbrook Place, and bicycle parking
- Repairs to the walls and infrastructure of the site, ensuring their preservation and the safety of users
- Improvements to existing habitat, leading to increased biodiversity, and enhancing green links through the area
Kett's Heights is a key historic site and green space in Norwich City, containing the remains of a medieval chapel and 19th century garden terraces. It is named after Robert Kett who occupied the site during his advance on the City in 1549. The site was acquired by Norwich City Council in the 1980s and is managed by the Friends of Kett's Heights, who are supported by the Norwich Fringe Project. By supporting this project, the GNGB helped preserve and improve access to a key historic site and green space allowing its continued use for the local community.
